in the style of - After Andy Warhol's Campbell's Soup Cans
(2022)
60 years after Warhol's famous artwork, this set of images also takes an appropriationist approach, questioning the authorship of works newly created with AI. By re-employing the artists' visual style, we strip them of what characterizes them, reducing their formal singularity to a mere ingredient, locked in the opaque box - or can - of the algorithm.
Somewhere between the real and the fake, between plagiarism and inspiration, the absence of legal precedent does not yet allow us to situate these variations of a new kind, a vagueness not unlike the very workings of these image generations.
